Protection of History

1994

Governments at all levels have set up forest parks and nature reserves in Mount Mengshan due to the splendid natural landscape and richly vegetated with high forest coverage. In December 1994, Mengshan Forest Park was ratified by the Ministry of Forestry (Document Lin Chang Pi Zi [1994] No. 150);

1998

In 1998, Mengshan Conservation and Development Management Committee of Scenic Spots was set up and staffed (1998, Linyi Municipal Government Office, Notification about the Set Up and Staffed of Mengshan Conservation and Development Management Committee of Scenic Spots.
In 7 May 1998, the second session of the Standing Committee of the 15^th National People's Congress of Linyi passed Resolutions on Protection and Development of the Mengshan Scenic Spots from the Standing Committee of Linyi People's Congress, stepped up the protection on Mount Mengshan.

1999

In 1999, the scope of Mengshan Geological and Geomorphic Landscape Protection Zone was designated by Pingyi County Government in Guimengding Area, with total area about 96 km².

2001

In 2001, Shandong Geological Environment Monitoring Terminus, Shandong No.7 Exploration Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources took the geo-heritage resources survey in geopark area and submitted the Pingyi Geological Hazard Survey and Zoning Report of Shandong(1:100000).

2003

In 2003, Yimengshan Tourist Area was ratified as AAAA Grade National Tourist Area by the China National Tourism Administration (Document Lv Ban Fa [2003] No. 83).

2005

In September 2005,Yimengshan National Geopark（The fourth batch National Geopark） was ratified by the Ministry of Land and Resources (Document Guo Tu Zi [2005] No. 187).After two years hard work on geological protection, popularization of science popularization and geological tourism development. In September 2007, it was opened to the public as Yimengshan National Geopark.

2010

In July 2007，Linyi Government delegated Shandong Geological Environment Monitoring Terminus to reedit Planning of Yimengshan National Geopark based on Master Planning of Yimengshan National Geopark 2005-2010. Reducing the number of original scenic spots, relocating the boundary and further strengthening the management of geopark.

2012

In September 2012, Daigu Provincial Geopark was ratified by Shandong Provincial Department of Land and Resources.

2015

In September 2015, "The Administration of Yimengshan National Geopark" was formally approved. (Document Lin Meng Wei Zi[2015] No. 18).
In June 2015, Research Center for Geopark(Geoheritage) Investigation and Evaluation, China University of Geosciences, Beijing was entrusted by Linyi Government to carry out the application for membership of UNESCO Global Geopark on resource surveys, delimitation of the bounder and the preparation of application materials, officially started the application of the Yimengshan Geopark.
