Insect-themed Study Tour Nurtures Youth’s Awareness of Ecological Conservation

To mark the September Geological Science Popularization Month and give full play to the science-education function of Yimengshan UNESCO Global Geopark, an insect-exploration group from Mengshan Forest School recently carried out an insect-themed study tour within the geopark. Using specimens as teaching tools, the activity guided teenagers to engage with nature and fostered their awareness of ecological protection.

Balancing professionalism and fun, the program offered one-on-one hands-on guidance by a postgraduate team from Shandong Normal University. Moving beyond textbook-based theoretical teaching, instructors combined professional expertise with field experience. They avoided dull lectures and walked students step-by-step through the whole process of insect specimen production.
