Yimengshan UNESCO Global Geopark Organized "International Museum Day"Experiential Education Activities

International Museum Day is celebrated on 18 May, and the theme of International Museum Day 2023 is "Museums, Sustainability and Wellbeing". On the occasion of "International Museum Day", Yimengshan Geopark Museum organized the "International Museum Day" experiential education activities. More than 50 teachers and students from Bailin town Junior High School at the foot of Mengshan Mountain participated in this study. The activities include three contents: "Forest Classroom Public Welfare Experience Activity", "Intangible Cultural Heritage Paper-Cutting Experience Public Welfare Activity", and "Geological Science Popularization Visit Activity".

Forest Classroom Public Welfare Experience Activity

In the Mengshan Chestnut Plantation, students listened to the explanation of local plant knowledge by plant expert Professor Gao Haibo of Linyi University, and worked in groups to find plants that needed to be made into specimens. Through the activity, students not only learned about the green plants around them, felt the charm of nature, but also stimulated their interests in plant knowledge.

Intangible Cultural Heritage Paper-Cutting Experience Public Welfare Activity

At the Yimengshan Geopark Museum, students started a wonderful journey of intangible cultural heritage. The museum invited Yi Yongqin, the member of the Shandong Folk Artists Association and the inheritor of paper-cutting in Mengyin County, to show and teach paper-cutting skills. Through interacting face-to-face with the master, students expressed their love for this time-honored craft.

Geological Science Popularization Visit

The teachers and students participating in this activity visited the Yimengshan Geopark Museum to learn about the geological relics displayed there. The explanation of the museum staff guided students to experience nature, so as to sow the seeds of knowing, loving and protecting nature; and also stimulate their learning interests in promoting the popularization of earth science and technology knowledge, and the dissemination of geological science spirit and geological science philosophy.
