The Fifth UNESCO Global Geopark Management and Development International Training Course grandly opened in Beijing on October 29.The event was jointly sponsored by China University of Geosciences, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences and Songshan UNESCO Global Geopark. More than 100 relevant experts and scholars from China, Spain, Japan, Malaysia, Greece and other countries and regions, as well as managers and staff of more than 30 global geoparks in China, attended the training and exchange, and Yimeng Mountain Global Geopark sent its staff to participate in the training.
The International Training Course on Management and Development of Global Geoparks has become one of the two most important capacity building activities of the Global Geoparks recognized by UNESCO and the Global Geopark Network. Aiming at the current status of Global Geoparks in China and the Asia-Pacific region, this training course aims to enable government officials, Geopark managers and staff in Geopark locations to understand the concept, criteria, declaration and evaluation of Global Geoparks as well as new developments in Geoparks, especially the construction of geological heritage interpretation in Geoparks. Members of the Global Geopark Council, members of the Executive Board of the Global Geopark Network and experts from outstanding Global geoparks and other institutions were invited to the training course as lecturers, which represented the top level of global geoparks in nowadays. The training courses are conducted in the form of a combination of expert lectures, workshops and field visits, so that the trainees will have a deep understanding of the concept of the global geopark, grasp the latest development trends, resolve doubts, discuss problems, and share experiences.
Since 2016, the UNESCO Global Geopark International Training Course has been successfully held for four sessions, which has had a huge impact in the international community of UNESCO Global Geoparks, and also has a great impact on the management and construction of the Geopark Had a positive effect. This training course has become an important capacity building activity for the UNESCO Global Geopark.
Yimengshan UNESCO Global Geopark actively participates in this training course, draws on the advanced development experience of other global geoparks, and further understands the new regulations and guidelines of the global geopark, the development concept of geological science, and the construction of geoparks. It will also strengthen the future the construction and management of Yimeng Mountain played an important role.
